He is not fine. He is functional. Those are different things.

When we picture depression, we picture someone who is visibly sad. That picture leaves a lot of people out, and men are near the top of the list.

To be clear, recognizing anger as a possible symptom is not the same as excusing what it does to the people nearby. Both things can be true. Something can be a symptom and still be causing harm, and both are reasons to get help rather than reasons to wait.

So don’t wait to be asked. Just show up:

🤍 Do the dishes without making it a whole conversation
🤍 Ask “how are you?”

Part 3: There is a way through 🤍

Here is the part that gets lost in the fear: postpartum depression is one of the most treatable conditions in medicine.

Talk therapy works. Medication works, and there are options that are safe while breastfeeding 👉🏻 this is a conversation to have with your doctor, not a door that’s closed to you. Support groups work, sometimes simply by proving you’re not the only one who has felt this. And practical help — sleep, meals, someone holding the baby — is not indulgence. It’s treatment.

Most mothers begin to feel meaningfully better within weeks of getting real support.

To the woman reading this who has been white-knuckling it for months: the version of you that laughs easily and sleeps and feels present with your baby is not gone. She’s underneath this. And this is liftable.

Here is the part that gets lost in the fear: postpartum depression is one of the most treatable conditions in medicine.

Talk therapy works. Medication works, and there are options that are safe while breastfeeding 👉🏻 this is a conversation to have with your doctor, not a door that’s closed to you. Support groups work, sometimes simply by proving you’re not the only one who has felt this. And practical help — sleep, meals, someone holding the baby — is not indulgence. It’s treatment.

Most mothers begin to feel meaningfully better within weeks of getting real support.

To the woman reading this who has been white-knuckling it for months: the version of you that laughs easily and sleeps and feels present with your baby is not gone. She’s underneath this. And this is liftable.

And know this: postpartum depression can begin anytime in the first year. If you’re seven months in and suddenly sinking, you are not “too late” for this to be what it is.

The most common thing that keeps mothers silent is the belief that they’re not struggling enough to justify asking. Let’s retire that. You don’t need to hit a threshold. Feeling like yourself again is reason enough.

Matthew 8:23-26 “when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and krebuked the winds and the sea, and lthere was a great calm”

Things will get harder but if He said we will get to the other side, no matter how bad it gets, Believe and rest in Him!
